A
| ANILINE FINISH or ANILINE-DYED LEATHER |
Leather which has been colored by dyes as distinguished from other leather treated by pigments or other opaque materials. |
| ACETATE |
A synthetic fabric with cellulose fibres. Acetate fabrics have a smooth flat weave with a resistance to moisture and stains, and are usually used for the interior lining of fashion belts and clothing with rough weaves. |
| ALLIGATOR SKIN |
A leather originally made from the skin of alligators. Alligators are now an endangered species and as such protected by laws. Consequently, such desired belts are made with cowhide or synthetic leather embossed and dyed, to look like alligator skin. |
| ANIMAL HIDE |
The skin of any animal processed for the purpose of the manufacturing of handbags or other fashion accessories. |
| ANTIQUE LEATHER |
Before any leather is used to make a belt, it is put through various treatments which create a variety of finishes, textures, colours and appearances. Antiqued leather can have a smooth finish with a mottled, mellow look. The grain of crushed leather is accented by shrinking. Distressed leather is made to look worn or used. |
| APPLIQUE |
A cutout decoration made of beadwork, embroidery, hand painted fabric or leather, etc., and is fastened to the exterior of a belt. |
| AUTHENTIC |
An authentic belt or fashion accessory is the original designed and manufactured by the designer specified on the name tag. Top fashion designers include authenticity cards with their belt, or stamp serial numbers on the inside of the handbag. In recent years, some designer handbags even have a small hologram attached to the interior as a mark of authenticity. Imitation belts and other accessories are made to look almost like the original, and can even bear the designers name. These imitations are called "fakes", "knockoffs", or "replicas", and are not made with the same craftsmanship and materials. Often they are manufactured in factories globally, with cheap labour. The manufacture and sale of fake belts is a violation of copyright law. |
